8 Cities, 8 bands – Win a support slot with Feeder!
Eight, yes, eight unsigned and independent artists will win the chance to support Feeder on their upcoming UK tour this spring! Feeder will be playing at eight intimate venues across the country and you or your band could be their support act in a city near you.
Simply sign up to indiestore.com, upload your music and opt into the competition through your Manager tool. If you are already registered with indiestore, make sure you have uploaded your music and then opt into the competition by logging into Manager. Once you have opted into the competition, your fans will be able to rate your music. The two highest rated artists from each city will be selected as finalists.
Finalists will then upload to Feeder’s YouTube group a three minute video of themselves performing live and fans will be able to show their support through online voting.
Finally Feeder themselves will choose between the finalists, and name the overall winning act for each city.

How are the bands assessed in terms of popularity? is it just on ratings or a variety of things together? judging from the order of popularity, this isnt a fair competition or is not working

My fave band has only just joined indiestore so has not got as many visits or plays as some of the other bands who have been members of indiestore for a longtime. Does this go against them when looking at popularity ? Or do they get their myspace pages checked out which would give a clearer indication of their success ?
All seems rather unfair to me !

Thanks for your comments everyone. To try and clear things up, band popularity is based on weekly visits/listens/sales/ratings of individual tracks, etc, and is updated weekly. Ratings for the Feeder competition are based on user ratings of individual tracks (when signed in you can rate a track from 1-7).
Only ratings or popularity stats from after the competition started are counted.

I have tried to log into the forum on numerous occasions but unfortunately I’m told that either my user name doesn’t exist or my account hasn’t been activated (despite receiving a confirmation email) so I’m afraid I am exiled to this user comment section.
Just to clarify I have a few questions, I’m sorry if it seems like I’m being really pedantic about this, I’m just trying to understand!
1. Are we to understand that the order of band popularity is something completely separate to the Feeder competition itself, and that ‘band popularity’ is not itself an indicator of how the competition is going?
2. If so, is there any indication of how the competition is going?
3. Is the Feeder competition judged solely on the ratings that users provide when they log in, and not on views/downloads/listens?
4. If ultimately Feeder decide between the two finalists, isn’t the second lot of voting completely pointless? Or do Feeder like to see who is more loved and use this to help them in their decision?
Thank you in advance indiestore, I am writing a feature for a magazine and part of it will be about this competition, I’d just like to get my facts straight before I start writing!

i have 1 question too, if a band gets 1 track voted once, and its a 7, does this put them above a band with 4 tracks voted for 100 times averaging 6.9?

I’m also having a problem logging into the forum! Plus, I’m logged in now but when I go to vote for bands it says I’m not logged in??? Why do these sort of competitions always seem to have a load of problems! It also seems a bit stupid (unless I’m mistaken here) that you have to sign up and create a store before you can even vote, couldn’t you just have created a separate, more basic registration for people who want to vote for the bands but don’t want a store? My head hurts.

some bands entered the competition when it first began on 5th April and some are only just entering the competition now so how does that work ??? Are they at an instant disadvantage re the popularity and play stats ?

There are a few other problems with the site too, such as the player not working on Vista.

I agree I hope that all of this has really been thought through and that it is a fair competition. It would be great if Indie Store address all of these issue ASAP.
Plus, good point about the time that some bands have been up. Is it measured average per day since you’ve joined? There should have been a definitive point where no more bands could sign up.
Also, do ratings in general count? So that if someone gets ratings of 1 they still get some sort of point because they had a rating in general?

Our forums are having a bit of trouble registering new user. We’re working on solving this but this is a good place to clear questions about the Feeder competition.
@Kasia. Pro users have no additional advantage in this competition. Pro is just a higher service level for artists to get chart eligible sales, SMS keywords 80% revenue share and more.
The popularity is based on weekly sales, listens and visits. Sales is weighed more than listens, and listens more than visits. To see how the bands are coming along in the competition, you would need to look at the ratings of each band. We understand that this is a bit awkward.
Feeder will ultimately choose the winning band for each city after the rating has picked the two top bands for each region. Feeder will choose the final support act because, well, it’s their show!
Sooner a band enters, the more time listeners will get to rate their music. Listeners just need to login to rate music. This prevents people from voting over and over for their favourite band.

I’ve been playing my fave bands songs over the last couple of days but their play stats dont change – my plays dont seem to be registering – am i doing something wrong ?

I think that it only counts one play of each song per computer per day. So you can play it as many times as you like but it will only count it once a day. I guess this is to stop people playing it over and over.
But from what I’ve read, although plays count towards band popularity, its only the ratings that contribute to the Feeder competition.

I’ve been trying all day to get a vote on! It will let u down load a song but wont let you vote or ad a coment, and i’m buggered if i’m going to down load a song if i can’t vote on it or leave a coment for my fav band. Looks like the only way to win this comp’ is to buy your way in which is a scam and a shame as there are some very good bands on hear and they all deserve a chance! As for me as much as i like my fav band i don’t think i’ll be coming back on hear as i can’t be putting up with this shit!

This is for the chepstow kid.
i’ve seen Rothchild play live with the, Traffic in london, and yes they are a very good band.
But it’s not nice and wrong to go dissing other bands no matter what you think of them.
For all the people who come on hear, don’t let this put you off there are some really good bands on hear so vote for the bands you like and good luck.
Also all bands have thier idots and as i said i’ve seen Rothchild play in london with the Traffic and they are a sound bunch of lads and this as nothing to do with them.

Firstly we’d like to say to Cheptow Kid that we really value all of our fans support, we owe them everything and we thank you for showing your support by coming on this site and voting for us.
However, we agree with Andy’s sentiments that it is wrong to diss other bands as we know how hard it is to get your music out there and heard and we have had our fair share of criticism and knockbacks as we expect all the other bands in this competition have.
We have always tried to support all of the bands we have met in the 18 months we have been together and have also encouraged our fans to do the same. Obviously this is a competition and every band would like to win it – us just as much as every one else but we would also like to wish every band in this competition the best of luck.

If one band has one rating of 7 does this mean they are ‘better’ then a band with100 ratings averaging 6.9?
also if a band has 4 songs do u just take the top rated one?

Well i have voted on my pc, the family pc my sisters laptop and two of my aunty’s pc’s. I tried to do it in school but you can’t as it is blocked bummer!
I don’t see the harm in voting as much as you can for your fav’ band. at the end of the day i’m doing it for the band i like, but at the same time i’m not slagging any other band off or putting anybody else’s taste in music down.
As a fan i would do anything i could to help the band i like. there is no rule saying you cannot use another pc to put another vote on for the band you like i have also put on plays as i would on myspace and will carry on doing so.
Aolso i would say to anyone who as a chance to use another pc laptop whatever to put a vote on for the band you like do it.

Luke i can understand your desire to help your fave band succeed however do you not think this is giving a very distorted view of a bands actual fan base and popularity? Some of us fans only have access to one pc and even if we did think about cheating to help our fave band it would not be possible.
I personally think competitions like this are always dodgy as they are so easily abused. I hope Feeder do actually choose the BEST band rather than those who have fans in a position to rack up the votes !

Tell you what, lets let indestore check mine and yours email adress just to see whos who! infact lets check them all. Or mybe indestore can put a phone number up and we can all have a phone in! At the end of the day this is how the compitition is run. i’ve voted twice, once at home once at work and it took me four days to do that. And i see on the 17april you yourself was asking how many votes you can put on and how many listens you had put on! as for people putting on loads of votes this was mentioned in a earlier question in regards to the Chepstow kid nothing was said and good luck to him. But I do believe it was a traffic fan that said lets not slag off any of the bands and so on and encouraged people to vote for whatever band they liked.
At the end of the day this is how the competition is run full stop.
But me thinks you are trying to come a fast one!
As i said lets let Indestore send both you and I an email or check ours to see just who’s who!
Also if you have been on the Traffic site you know full well that the band is away in vegas for the last week to watch the boxing. Me thinks your trying to put the boot in when they can’t evan come back at you! Sad.

Rob you certainly have a lot of time on your hands if you have gone through every band who has entered this competitions’ comments, blogs and myspaces !!! And did you not know that it was deemed dangerous to use real names on inernet sites and that most users adopt an alias !
How exactly am i trying to pull the wool over peoples eyes ? It is there in black and white that fans are being encouraged to “make up email addresses” in order to rack up votes. How can this be a fair way to win !
Every band that has entered this competition wants to win just as badly as the next but is this the way to do it ?
I personally think 4th Street Traffic are a great band and don’t believe they would need to cheat to do well in this competition.
My question as to how many times you could vote and how freqently was a fair and valid one – if a fan can vote more than once a day or once every day from a valid email address then that is fine – making up email addresses i believe is slightly different and don’t get me wrong, i don’t believe there is just one band in this competition doing it. i am just questioning the fairness of competitions such as this !

I agree with you Rob that independant judging is the fairest way however I suppose “voting” helps gets people on to websites such as indiestore and helps their promotion !
I really didnt mean to upset anyone individual or band ( i did not notice the band name had copied on to my message until i had already posted it and then there was no way of deleting it) i was just trying to illustrate the problem with fairly judging these kind of competitions. I suppose it is up to Indiestore and Feeder to decide on how they judge it at the end of the day.
As i have already stated i believe 4th Street to be a very good band and I wish they and every other band in this competition the very best of luck. May the best band win!

i guess you have a point Lindy but as ive tried to find a set of ‘rules’ for the competition and found none, i guess anything goes and everyones at it so… there’s no way i would ‘cheat’ if it was there in writing saying that voting more than once is cheating. but really, it just says:

Your comment re Big Bro though is a little different as with those votes it actually costs you money each time you cast a vote thereby inhibiting many from cheating.

Zenyth are the best band in the Cardiff comp, they already supporting some big acts, Zane Lowe, Pendulum, Scouting For girls, Pete Dohert, Australian Pink Floys, look at their website at http://www.zenyth-rocks.com.
4th Street traffic are decent as are Rothschild were they not Back Alley Sally? They come a cross a bit cheesey.
Other than that i dont rate many of the bands on the Cardiff one apart from Zenyth & 4th street a distant second.

You are obviously a fan of Zenyth if not their manager as your PR effort on their behalf indicates. However, if they are as good as you obviously think they are then they will have the fanbase supporting them in this competition and will do well on their own merit.
I do not think it does any band any good to have it’s fans criticising the competition and putting bad comments and ratings on their pages so as to disadvantage them
Previously as you may see from early emails there has been a good sense of support between bands and fans who have entered this competition and a sense of fair play. This has somewhat diminished over the last week which is a great pity.
Every band who has enetered this competition wants to win otherwise they wouldnt have entered it. I wish every single one of them the best of luck as you are all very talented whatever your personal taste in music may be, and i hope some of the earlier sense of comaraderie can be restored.
And in case you are all wondering I happen to be both a Rothchild and 4th Street Traffic Fan !

As much as you love your own band. When you bite and stick up for them this is what they want. No matter how good the band you like is or what they have done they don’t care thier just feeding of upsetting you!

I actually work for Radio Station and have nothing to do with Zenyth, but have heard some great things about this band, I have watched Back Alley Sally previously and they have a great singer. Why did they change names? I listened to bands i know of through the grapevine.
Well how is it i saw Back Alley Sally 2 & half to 3 years ago.
Its a comp i’m allowed my opinion, i’m scouting for new music.
PS i wish i was Zenyth’s Manager it could take of for them from whjat i’m hearing – quids in.

I am well informed that Back Alley Sally first got together in August 2006 and didnt start gigging until that Nov so which ever band you saw 21/2 to 3 years ago it werent them mate !
Yes you are entitled to an opinion and I am entitled to mine – I stand by my original statement that if Zenyth are that good then they will have a strong fanbase like other bands in this competition, who will show their support by voting FOR them and not against the competition.

if the long list of bands in the shortest amount of time, and wins in other competitions, gave bands points in this comp, then fair enough. it has nothing to do with anything. im not even mentioning which band i am supporting. seriously, no on really cares, and no one wants to argue about it except the ones with nothing else to do.
who cares who you think is the best? lets let the competition decide so shut up and get voting. stop wasting time spouting rubbish and spend more time supporting the band you love. these comments neither add nor detract anything from the competition.

Was that the Emergenza thing, i heard about that – I was actually at the finals in Astoria, not the night that 4th Street where on, I met the organisers James & Antonio & the reason Zenyth didnt go through was because James was a Judge and he co manages Zenyth – He voted for 4th Street as they are good mates with Zenyth from what Antonio discussed with me so thats fair point.

Mike, it wasn’t their full on manager but the guy James who does the PR Zenyth, he was a guest of JAR Music Group and also was at the Birmingham & Glasgow Finals, i was at that final in London mainly to see Mcgoozer. So thats why he was there.
Bands take different routes to get where they want to be and Zenyth, Rothchild & 4th Street are all on different routes play different music and have different styles. But from what i’ve heard and what i have seen Zenyth have something that for me is just that little bit better, i will listen to the other bands now to see what else is out there.

Hmmm…
Has any other bands votes taken a severe battering in the last 24 hours of the comp?
It seems as though the bands whose friends have no problem opening up as many accounts as possible also have no problem marking down other bands to get where they want. I could be wrong but it does seem a tad suspicous as we weren’t doing bad until yesterday.
It’s a shame cos we’ve worked hard messaging people, flyering at gigs etc for this like all other bands taking part.

If you look more carefully, you’ll see nearly all the band ratings at the top have been hit down. My favourite band has been hit down over and over again , but it seems only you are moaning about this happening. Every band has worked hard getting people to vote for them. And by the way, I am not guity of voting any bands down!

I think you may have your wires crossed because that was actually my first post. I didn’t reailse that all of the bands were going through this because this is my first experience with a competition like this. Apologies.
Saying that though I’m not just moaning about the band i would like to see get through, i think it’s a shame that in all cases there are people sad enough to vote down other bands. It doesn’t seem that “honest” hard work can get you through or that votes based on merit of your music etc. exist. The only way to get ahead is by stepping on other peoples shoulders. I honestly would like the best band to win and am realistic enough to know that we’re not going through.
One thing though – Maybe next time before throwing accusations around you should have the facts to back it up.

If the results are delayed, then fair enough but for the love of God let everyone know. There are a whole load of bands who have been waiting for this day the whole month. Don’t you realise that you are playing with the emotions of these people?
I don’t have a band, I’m just waiting to see if my favorite has won. I can only imagine how I would be feeling if I was trying to play with my beloved Feeder and the only way to do it was to enter this SHAM of a competition.
Don’t ignore these poor people, communicate, don’t hide behind your indiestore computers and come clean if something has gone wrong or be delayed.
This is just cowardly and downright mean. If you say you’re gona do it then go through with it.

any-one else think the finalists announced is a con !!!! I went through every band in the Bristol and Cardiff groups yesterday and not one of those listed as a finalist had the number of votes now being listed – in fact some of the bands I don’t even remember seeing listed at all – this stinks i’m afraid – i think the voting has been a complete waste of time coz i get the feeling Indiestore/feeder have chosen the bands the want regardless of the votes received – some of the finalists have not received a single comment from fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I looked at the Bristol Ratings last night, and the band Pinstripe had 44 votes. Today I see They’ve won with 949 votes!!!!!!!!!! They even had a lower rating than some of the other bands on there. It was all fixed from the start and the winners known to Indiestore. They just wanted to scam some money out of all the other bands who entered. Also the band Winch house in Cardiff had no votes. Today they have won with 1 VOTE! I thought the voting ended LAST FRIDAY. THEN THEY HAD NO VOTES. NOT EVEN 1. Lots of bands in the Cardiff section had way higher than them. COME ON INDIESTORE, WHAT’S YOUR EXCUSE THIS TIME??????? WHAT’S THAT -NOTHING TO SAY??????/ THOUGHT NOT!!!!!! SCAM!

I checked the all the Bristol entries yesterday to compare to my fave band Neither finalist had as many visits, listens, downloads or ratings as our guys. Not sure what the criteria was for ranking the bands but it was deffo on a need to know basis. With Indiestore knowing and the poor b*****s who spent their time and efforts voting for their fave band not knowing. How can you tell if the comp was fair and above board if the rating/voting system is not explained clearly. Methinks this was all a grand marketing ploy by Indiestore to get thousands of people to sign-up to their service and hopefully buy a few tracks. How cunning – and we all fell for it.

A lot of bands have spent a great deal of time getting people to download and vote for their songs from the very start of this competition only to see all their efforts were for nothing, as this has been a scam from start to finish. Either that or the people who work for INDIESTORE are complete imbeciles. In the past whenever my favourite band has a new track, I’ve downloaded it from Indiestore. But I can tell you now – NEVER AGAIN. Iam telling my favourite band to get rid of Indiestore who they’ve been with for ages. As for the World Festival Competition – FORGET IT!!!
My advice to any band who has been with Indie store for a long time and tried hard only to get a kick in the guts for all their effort, is to take Indiestore off their band pages and bin it! This is 1 of the dirtiest scams I’ve ever seen. I wouldn’t piss on the people behind it, if they were on fire! INDIESTORE SHIT

INDIESTORE, when exactly did you decide on the votes for the Cardiff winners? Even though the voting ended last week, the Cardiff winners still only had 1or 2 votes by yesterday (7th). Today by some miracle BOTH bands have 1336 votes and are declared the winners. Just have a look at the number of plays compared to the number of supposed votes. I know your site has been down all week because you said you mucked the votes up. YOU WEREN’T JOKING WERE YOU INDIESTORE! GOOD JOB SCAMMERS…………..

Just to point out it may not be Indiestore who has assigned bands with thousands of votes in the dying seconds of the competition (or even the day after!!)
Actually, some bands themselves (or crazy fans) could have used some computer program to generate lots of votes quickly.
Either way I guess Indiestore is responsible for their unfair rules and not eliminating bands with ridiculous numbers of votes in a short time period.

The Cardiff winners in this competition indicate why the rules are causing such a backlash of complaints.
4 songs all released on the same day at the start of April:
song 1 = 1 vote
song 2 = 1336 votes
song 3 = 1 vote
song 4 = 1 vote

I have to agree this competition has been a total SCAM and a complete waste of time. I have been checking out the votes regularly and when i checked on the closing day of the comp one of the finalists had ONE vote and i’m pretty sure that the other had NONE…….so why is it that indiestore felt the need to award these two bands an additional 1336 votes EACH?????? I mean check the plays against the votes and you’ll see for yourself it just dont add up, It now seems obvious that what everyone has been saying from the beginning is in fact true, that this competition has been one big con from the word go and indiestore have obviously put through who they wanted to go through plucking them from the bottom of the pile and thinking no one is gonna notice….no offence but do you really think that we would be that stupid???? Basically indiestore have robbed the real finalists of their chance, decieved the fans and thier own customers, which is not good for business, i wont be using this site again thats for certain. What a complete waste of time. To the bands that should have gone through; So sorry for the disapointment this must have caused and to indiestore; What a bunch of conmen

I’ve e mailed ofcom who have messaged back to say “due to the present situation with television competitions they will be holding a full investigation”. I know they can’t close down a company like ITV but bet they can with a crap site like this!!!!!

I,m not saying my fave band would have won but i thought they had a good chance of going through. I thought it was feeder who got to pick who played with them?
Well from what i can see why bother indiestore have done it so far so let them do it again. A total scam by iniestore from start to finish.
I for one accuse indiestore for fixing this compo, i also accuse them of putting votes were there was none and will be e.mailing Ofcom myself to say so.
This was a very dirty trick indiestore and i hope it comes back to haunt you!
By the way i will never download another track from this site again!

Indiestore – you have gone very quiet – don’t you at least owe everyone a proper detailed explanation as to how your finalists have suddenly managed to gain such high ratings for just 1 of their songs, whilst their other tracks have received only 1. My Fave band had one of the highest number of votes throughout the entire competition all scoring very highly with many many comemnts from their numerous fans. Your finalists don’t appear to have any fans at all !!!!!!!!!!
How covenient it was for you to have a Maintenance issue the day the finalists were due to be announced and why did it take you another 3 days to actually get around to announcing the finalists ???????? You weren’t vote rigging by any chance were you !!

Lets be honest in my mind i put it between 3 bands in both the Cardiff and the Bristol section of the competition. But not only did these bands not get a look in, none of the other bands that was closest to them got a look in either what a scam.
At the end of the day every band wants to win and good luck to them. But this is a complet sham. Indiestore as made the whole thing feel dirty.
As for ansewers there is none. I checked the votes last night for both Cardiff and Bristol before going to bed. And the only way the finalists got the votes they did get within the space of a few hours was for someone from Indiestore to put them there it’s as simple as that.
People are not stupid, and i think in the long run as many are saying this may backfire on you in the long run.
As for me i can tell you now, you’ve lost custom thats for sure.

Anyone who is as upset or as angry as me with the way Indiestore as run this sham of a competition should go to ( http://www.ofcom.org.uk ) and make thier feelings known.
I have and i hope more will follow. Not that it will change the out come or would i want it to now, the whole thing as become cheap and dirty.
But i don’t think Indiestore or thoughs who work at Indiestore should be allowed to get away with such shameful behaviour.
