indiestore live night – 29 April

The last Tuesday of the month is upon us, and the Dublin Castle in Camden is bracing itself for another indiestore live night (29 April).
Carl Barat’s favourite band The Hugs claim to be reincarnated garage pop stars from the sixties. They don’t sound far from the truth. These teenagers from Portland, Oregon, play music which is as much garage rock as it is jangly pop, and they’ll have no excuse for not making it big. They’ve even been signed by the same man who discovered The Strokes.
Belfast’s Panama Kings are a band determined to do it their own way. Formed at the start of last year, they’ve already made a name for themselves on the live circuit, and with the simple goals of keeping it fresh and fun, they refuse to bow to industry pressure. Drawing flattering comparisons with the likes of Modest Mouse, Pixies and The Walkmen, Panama Kings certainly don’t follow that tired old trilby-wearing indie band trend.
They’ve played with fellow Wakefieldians The Cribs, as well as The Hoosiers, Tiny Dancers and indiestore band Glasvegas, and now Pavilion are gracing April’s indiestore live night with their presence. Apparently formed during a period of light drizzle in Wakefield, their music is anything but gloomy. In contrast their sound is at times so sunny you’d think it was written on a Californian beach.
This is definitely an indiestore live night not to be missed.
